SERMAS

SERMAS is the acronym for "Servicio Madrileñoo de Salud". SERMAS is using Legit.Health to help General Practitioners (GPs) increase the adequacy of referals. The study encompassed the collaboration of three medical institutions: Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro, alongside two primary care centers namely, Valle de la Oliva and San Juan de la Cruz. A total of 40 practitioners and 100 patients participated in this study. GPs incorporated Legit.Health as a supplementary resource whenever they encountered cases that lacked a significant level of diagnostic confidence before making a referral to a specialist.

By employing Legit.Health, they were able to augment their diagnostic capabilities by up to 13%. Notably, medical professionals acknowledged the effectiveness of Legit.Health in facilitating the diagnosis of skin cancer, a pivotal aspect of their clinical practice. Osakidetza

Osakidetza, the Basque Health Service, has been a collaborative partner since 2019 when we initiated our first clinical validation study. Our diagnostic support and triage capabilities garnered exceptionally positive outcomes, capturing the attention and interest of the head dermatologists Dr. Jesus Gardeazabal from Cruces and Dr. Rosa Izu from Basurto. Recognizing the value of our tool, they expressed a keen desire to implement it within their respective hospitals.

To further substantiate our initiative from a business perspective prior to a system-wide implementation, we have commenced a concise study of 6 months in 2023. Presently, we have already enrolled approximately 50 patients and are meticulously measuring the reduction in waiting lists and associated costs. These key metrics will provide valuable insights into the potential impact and advantages of incorporating our tool more extensively. Healthcare providers pain

For profit (private) care providers

For-profit care providers are diverse across Europe, but share some pains:

  1. Lack of specialists.
  2. Difficulty to provide care remotely with a degree of customer satisfaction equiparable to in-person consultation.
  3. High fragmentation regarding digital solutions.

This causes for-profit care providers to suffer frustrations:

  1. Patients wait up to 12 months to receive medical assistance
  2. Insurance companies are ambivalent about reimbursing remote consultations at the same value than in-person consultations.
  3. For-profit care providers are unable to cover the demand of the dermatology market. Their supply capacity does

Government (public) care providers

Government care providers in Europe are at a difficult position due to 3 factors:

  1. General practitioners and nurses have insufficient knowledge about skin diseases and wounds; and there is a lack of specialists.
  2. The incidence of skin disorders and wounds is high and is increasing.
  3. New treatments for severe conditions are very expensive.

Thus, care providers to suffer frustrations:

  1. Patients have to wait up to 1 year to receive medical assistance
  2. Doctors suffer burnout and dermatologists are increasingly switching to cosmetic medicine.
  3. It's difficult to monitor and supervise efficacy of treatments, which makes it difficult to bargain with pharmaceutical companies.

How Legit.Health is helping

For profit (private) care providers

For-profit care providers benefit from:

  1. The Diagnosis Support and the Automatic Severity Assessment Assessment features empower non-specialists to provide a higher degree of care. This improves the
    supply capacity, and thus reduces the waiting time for patients and increases the quantity of medical
    acts they can invoice.
  2. The Patient and Doctor App feature outputs HL7 FHIR®-compliant Diagnostic
    Reports with all the required clinical information. By doing so, the output of the solution is equivalent to a report generated by a physician, which ensures that it will be reimbursed like a medical act, even when the physician did not intervene at all.
  3. The solution covers 232 conditions (soon to be 323) and it is usable by multiple departments: primary care, dermatology and nursing.

Government (public) care providers

Government care providers benefit from:

  1. The Diagnosis Support and the Automatic Severity Assessment features empower non-specialists. This also reduces the workload of the specialists and automates the follow-up of chronic patients.
  2. The Smart Referral feature increases the adequacy of referrals. It scores pre-malignancy, malignancy, severity and outputs a referral index, not only for skin cancer, but for hundreds of conditions.
  3. The Automatic Severity Assessment feature evaluates the effectiveness of treatments. This empowers care providers to supervise the drugs' performance and trigger compensation clauses when the treatment falls short.
  4. The Therapy Success feature predicts how a patient will respond to treatment in a predictive way. This increases the adequacy of prescriptions and dosage. In turn, saves costs and improves safety.
  5. The Patient and Doctor App feature keeps patients adhered to the treatment, increasing efficacy and reducing prescription costs.
